At DUNBAR ESTATES we are very conscious of our role as kaitiaki (guardians) of the natural world and are working hard to enhance the health of the land and environment. We are encouraging native forest regeneration alongside the grapes at the Ngatimoti property. Sculptures at both properties remind us of interconnections between all parts of the land and the natural world. They depict the story of Tane, the God of the forest, nourished by Papatuanuku, the Earth Mother beneath his feet, holding aloft Ranginui, the sky father. Through this separation, light was able to flood the world and allow living things to flourish.
Meet John & Jennifer Dunbar of DUNBAR ESTATES. Their wine story begins in the early 2000s when they first converted a farm paddock near Cromwell into a vineyard. Later in 2017 they took on the Ngatimoti vineyard, Cellar Door, Café and accommodation.
“Our hand picked grapes are sourced from our family-owned estates in Nelson-Tasman and Central Otago from which we strive to produce a real taste of New Zealand though our boutique wines.”
Olives are also grown and pressed for extra virgin olive oil and preserves are made from fruit grown on the Ngatimoti property.
